Honors

Nurses work hard for their communities, patients, and peers: often with little or no recognition. At DIstrict IV, we like to honor our nurses who go above and beyond what is expected of them on a daily basis.

Congratulations to Patricia LaBrosse for her election to serve as the Secretary for LSNA at the state level.

Congratulations to Jared Aucoin for his successful presentation and subsequent adoption of his resolution at the LSNA 2011 House of Delegates. The resolution can be viewed here.

Carllene Macmillan, a District IV Member and Louisiana State Board of Nursing Board Member, has been appointed to the Commitment to Ongoing Regulatory Excellence Project (CORE) Committee for FY 2011. The Commitment to Ongoing Regulatory Excellence Project is a performance measurement system for nursing regulators. CORE utilizes data collected periodically from boards of nursing and stakeholders and helps improve organizational performance practices, capabilities, and results in the provision of regulatory services. The CORE Committee is a very important committee directed at examining best practices among member boards.

A very special congratulation to one of our members and also a Board Member, Dawn Huggins, for obtaining her Occupational Health Nursing certification. Dawn is one of the very few nurses in the district to hold this certification and it attests to her extensive knowledge and skill in occupational health nursing!

Governor Bobby Jindal announced the appointment of Patricia La Brosse, APRN-BC, to the Region Four Human Services District Board. The Region Four Human Services District Board serves to operate and manage community-based programs and services relative to public health, mental health, developmental disabilities, and substance abuse services for the parishes of Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, and Vermilion. Ms. La Brosse, a Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist with over 25 years of experience, is the Immediate Past President of the Louisiana State Nurses Association, and sits on the LSNA and District IV Board of Directors. District IV would like to congratulate Mrs. LaBrosse for this honarable appointment.

Congratulations to Dr. Denise Danna, our LSNA State President, for the publication of her new book, Nursing in the Storm: Voices From Hurricane Katrina. The book takes you inside six hospitals -- cut off from help for days from flooding -- where nurses cared for patients around the clock. Nurses share their experiences: what they did, how they coped and what they lost.

Congratulations to one of our members, Camille Claiborne, RN, PhD, whose manuscript Dying in God's Hands has been accepted for publication. This book comes as a result of years of independent research interviewing hospice patients. It includes results of this research along with a collection of prayers and prose for cancer patients and their families. It was released October 12, 2009 at bookstores around the country and can be ordered here. Please join us in congratulating Camille for all her hard work.
